You Are a Chosen People

The Apostle Peter was usually the first to speak and the first to act among the Twelve. He took his lumps for always jumping ahead. And he learned in the process to let the Lord Jesus do the speaking and the leading.
Peter's failure during the trial and crucifixion of Jesus broke him. He left that courtyard and wept bitterly (Mark 14:72). When the disciples met in Galilee, Peter wanted to go fishing--going back to the life he knew before he dropped his nets to follow Jesus.
Jesus had chosen him once, and Jesus chose him again. He singled out the failed Apostle and asked the crucial question, "Peter, do you love me?" Peter confessed his love, and Jesus gave him the pastoral marching order, "Feed my sheep" (John 21:15-19).
Peter knew what it meant to be chosen by God even after miserable defeat. He rejoiced in this status received through God's mercy. He wanted all believers to recognize and appropriate the wonderful standing that comes through grace. If you know Christ Jesus, then you are part of a roayl priesthood. You are one of the chosen people. You have status in this universe that nothing on earth can steal from you. Living in the light of that truth is true joy and liberty.
